Stories That Move Us
This workshop creates a space where our stories are welcomed, honored, and transformed through the artistry of Playback Theatre and the spontaneity of improv.
Stories That Move Us is a three-hour workshop that invites improvisers to reconnect with the heart of why we tell stories; to listen, to share, and to be seen. In most improv spaces, we focus on inventing characters, finding games, and chasing laughter. Yet, we rarely pause to share our own stories, the lived experiences that shape who we are.
Using tools of deep listening, empathy, and spontaneous performance, participants explore how real-life experiences can become powerful, communal storytelling moments. Each exercise is designed to build trust and connection, allowing the group to create together from a place of authenticity rather than invention. Improvisers often find this deeply refreshing, an opportunity to play with truth, vulnerability, and presence in ways that enrich their craft and deepen their understanding of ensemble.
Participants consistently describe Stories That Move Us as both moving and empowering. Many are surprised by how transformative it feels to witness their own stories reflected back to them, and how joyful it is to hold space for others in return. The workshop fosters empathy and courage while celebrating the universal threads that connect us all.
At its core, Stories That Move Us reminds us that every improviser has a story worth sharing and that within those stories lies the power to heal, to connect, and to rediscover the magic of being human together.
