A Character Workshop
Unlock a set of practical, reliable tools for creating grounded, engaging characters you can play with honesty, authenticity, and a healthy dose of fun. In this workshop, you’ll explore how physicality, mindset, and playful risk-taking work together to bring characters to life. We’ll get your mind and body ready, then move into exercises that challenge you physically while expanding your creative range. Come prepared to step outside your comfort zone and discover characters who feel as real—and as surprising—as the ones who live right next door.

Betse Green is a Certified Improv Educator and Architect, internationally acclaimed Applied Improv teacher and improviser with almost 25 years of experience. She has been a key figure in the Portland improv scene since 2002 and is currently an ensemble member, teacher, and director at Curious Comedy and ComedySportz Theaters. Betse also performs regularly with independent improv groups including B&B, B.A.B.E., and Slumber Party. With a deep passion for transformative improv, Betse believes in the power of collaboration, inspiration, gratitude, and fun in every performance. Her teaching philosophy centers on nurturing connection, building trust, and creating an environment where students feel safe to thrive and take risks. Betse’s work extends well beyond Portland, as she has facilitated, directed, and performed at theaters and festivals around the world, including the Bellingham Improv Festival (WA), The Gather (Ireland), The Ocean State Improv Festival (RI, USA), recently teaching and performing with ImproFest Ireland.
